1970's Belly Dance Recitals for Opal Deuth's Class

Bellydancing arrived in Fort Collins in the early 1970's. Opal Deuth, a fifty-something widow learned the dance from an exchange student in Missouri. When she returned to Colorado she began teaching. Her grandaughter Nancy Montgomery joined her in the first bellydance class taught in Fort Collins.

The Parks & Rec classes taught in city park were so popular there was a waiting list. Opal's legacy is the large community of bellydancers in Fort Collins today. Nancy Montgomery teaches with the Desert Rain Dance Troupe, and dances with her daughter Suzie Montgomery.
