BEJEWELED HANDCOVER
Level: Intermediate
Hook: #7
Thread: #20 DMC crochet cotton
Gauge: 9 sc per inch
Other: One 3/4 to 1" jewel with metal frame to attach to crochet
Note: This should fit most hands, but for a better fit, check as you
go and make adjustments.
You could also make this with the #10 crosheen metallic but you will need
to adjust for a larger gauge. I have not done this one with glass bugle
beads because of safety concerns.
Setup: measure 1/8" round elastic gold or silver and knot to size.
R1: start covering with SC. approx 1-1/2" before knot working R to
L around. When you reach the beginning connect with sl st. back = (24
+ 1 sc), front = (60 sc) for a total of 85 sc. The stitches should fit
snugly on the elastic. If you change the size, you will need to recalculate
the # of squares
R2: For the back of wrist: (dc, skip 2,ch 2) 8 times for 8 squares ,
For the front: (dc, skip 2, ch 4) for 20 squares ending by connecting
to first dc..
R3: 3sc in each ch2 of back 8 squares; then (dc, ch 4, sk 2 sc ) next
20 squares
Now start working bi-directional on the front squares only. 1 square
(sq) = (dc, ch4) To end row,: sl st, and ch5 up to start new row. Reverse
work (rw)
R4 = 16 squares
R5 = 14 squares (dec at beg & end of row)
R6 = 12 squares (dec at beg & end of row)
R7 = 9 squares (dec at edges by 3)
R8 = 7 squares
R9 = 4 squares
R10 = combine 2 squares with dc sts, ch 25 to top of next two ch4 spaces,
and once again join with dc sts. This look should fit around your middle
finger comfortably. If not, adjust length of chain.
EDGING: cut thread. You may use a different color thread to edge if you
wish. Starting at top of the left side, working R to L, add a scallop
edging in each loop space all around the side through to the starting
point (sc, dc, dc, sc) until done. (Or improvise your own edging).
ATTACH jewel by slipping metal frame under threads and putting jewel into
place, pressing down prongs.
