COIN NECKLACE - CHOKER STYLE
This piece can also be used as a belly or turban drape for tribal bellydancers

Level: Beg/Intermediate
Hook: B
Thread: #10 Crochet Cotton (not metallic crosheen)
Other: Elastic or non-stretch cord necklace base
Gauge: approx 6 sc or 2 sq (dc, ch2) or 3 rectangles (dc, ch1) per inch.
For a 14" cord it will take approx 85 sc to cover
You will need to decide how much of the cord you wish to cover with coin rows: either the whole cord or just a portion of the front. Figure out how many coins to pre-feed: 1 coin for every rectangle (approx. 2 per inch). Multiply this times the # of rows you wish to do. Putting on extra coins to be sure is a good idea. To avoid spending a lot of time figuring out your actual gauge, cover the core with single chain, find & mark the center, and then count back to where you wish to start with the coins.
The first row will cause the cord to curve around the neck because of the close spacing:
R1: (dc, sk 1 sc, ch 2, pass 1 coin) end with dc, rw & sl st to top of loop
R2: dec by working into previous loop:(dc, sk 2 sc, ch 2, pass 1 coin) end with dc.
