MAKING THE WIRE FRAME FOR GUEDRA HEADPIECE

cotton quilt batting
black cotton material
needle & thread.

1. Cut about 6.5 ft of light gauge clothesline wire and make frame.

2. Cover with wrappings of cotton batting strips around the wire until fairly smooth. Then take strips of black cotton about 2" wide and cover all the cotton. It may be necessary to sew down a few places where the strips don't lie flat enough, but don't worry about anyplace where you plan to add braids.

3. For the front piece, sew a cover on the front, attaching the black cotton strips you have just put on the wire.

4. Use 4 strands x 3 per braid (6 folded over = 12 strands). Remember to make them longer than your intended finished length since they will shorten with braiding. You could use synthetic hair imitations if you prefer, but you would then have to figure out how to attach them. This technique makes them a part of the headpiece.
